Photojaanic app

FREELANCE⎜2016 (ongoing)
Print shop already accepting orders through a website, asked me to help design a mobile app for an even faster self-printing. Later on the plans are to venture into self-publishing through a platform. The ongoing project.

WHAT DID I DO: Features description + prioritisation⎜Wireframes⎜Prototyping⎜User testing⎜UX / UI design

brief
SELF PRINTING & PUBLISHING IS FRUSTRATING
Living in the era of smartphones has lead us to clustered camera rolls oversaturated with pictures and snaps. Digital photography is cheaper, faster and allows for more photos to be taken, as well as the storage is way cheaper then it was before with film cameras. Yet people still want to print those important pictures to preserve memories in a tangible way.
goal
The goal of the project was to design an app that solves these problems. The flow has to be linear and intuitive, with an emphasis on visual storytelling. However, in the first iteration I only tackle the self-printing flow, later on the plan is to add self-publishing as well – I had to keep it in mind.

ITERATIVE APPROACH
It was agreed between me and the client we are going to work in small iterations. I started with wireframes, and layer by layer cleaned the designs, getting closer to the final ones.
WIREFRAMES
It was agreed between me and the client we are going to work in small iterations. I started with wireframes, and layer by layer cleaned the designs, getting closer to the final ones. Goal of wireframing was to get the flow to it's simplest form and intuitive step by step process for the user to follow.
BRANDING
When it comes to branding, it is always good to envision the end user as well. Who is he? When is he going to be using the app? Is it a he? All these questions helped me to choose typeface and colors.
UI DECISIONS
Whenever the core flow is set in place, it is time to stretch the UI muscle and see what works better. I have spent some time working on the core interaction designs.
FINAL DESIGNS
what's next?
Now that we have the core functionality in place, we will continue working on the self-publishing features. It will require for more research and user testing because it is an innovation of sorts. It also means development of a platform will have to take place, because we want people to communicate via the app.
